Project: Journal

Project Information

Description

he Journal project provides the PHC Port facility through which members record useful activity, build evidence of contribution, and develop a structured personal record of experience. It includes tools such as Timechunks, Experience, Contribution, Shareout, and Test Questions, each supporting a different part of member participation and development. Timechunks allow members to record work done in short, meaningful entries linked to projects, concerns, actions, deliverables, or other PHC records. The Experience facility provides the outline of a living CV, helping members describe what they have done and how their capability is developing. Contribution records help summarise daily value added, while Shareout provides a future basis for recognising contribution when project value is distributed. The Journal is therefore not merely a diary. It is a structured evidence system for participation, learning, accountability, and future opportunity.

Objectives

The objective of the Journal project is to create a reliable and easy-to-use record of member activity inside PHC Port. Key objectives include enabling members to record Timechunks, maintain a living Experience record, capture evidence of contribution, support mentor review, and provide structured information that can later help with CVs, project reports, training progress, and PHC Shareout calculations. The project also aims to help new members become active contributors rather than passive observers. By giving each member a practical place to record work, questions, reflections, and project involvement, the Journal supports the wider PHC goal of turning useful activity into visible, reviewable, and potentially valuable evidence. A further objective is to support controlled onboarding, allowing Strategists and mentors to validate Timechunks, guide new members, and help maintain the quality of recorded contribution as PHC Port membership expands.

Background

The PHC Service depends on structured information. Projects cannot be properly controlled if useful work, concerns, decisions, questions, and contributions disappear into emails, chats, meetings, or memory. The Journal project was created to address this gap at member level. It provides a practical mechanism for recording the daily work and developing experience of PHC Port members. This is especially important during the early development of PHC membership, where people need a clear way to participate, learn the method, and demonstrate genuine contribution. The Journal also responds to a wider professional problem: many people have valuable experience but weak evidence. Conventional CVs often summarise claims, while PHC Journal records can increasingly show actual contribution over time. By combining Timechunks, Experience, Contribution, Shareout, and Test Questions, the Journal becomes a foundation for member development, project governance, training, and future value recognition.

Impact Summary

The Journal project is expected to improve the way PHC Port members participate, learn, and demonstrate value. Its immediate impact is to give members a structured place to record useful activity and build a visible record of contribution. This helps mentors and Strategists understand who is active, what work is being done, where support is needed, and how members are developing. For individual members, the Journal can strengthen confidence, professional identity, and employability by turning daily activity into evidence that can support a CV or project profile. For PHC-supported projects, it improves accountability by making contribution more visible and reviewable. In the longer term, the Journal supports the PHC Shareout system by providing a stronger evidence base for recognising contribution when project value is created. This makes the Journal a key part of the wider PHC aim: connecting useful work, personal development, project governance, and fairer recognition of value.
